As Libya witnessed three alarming bomb explosions in few hours in Tripoli, the UN Humanitarian Chief Valerie Amos requested both the sides to pause fighting.
She revealed the ‘adhoc’ nature of the humanitarian relief being carried out right now. Horrific condition of livelihood with food and water supply is getting scarce in Misrata was also given a great deal of importance by Valerie Amos.
She also stated that the conditions were becoming quite toruturous for the poor population in Libya.
Rebels were seen rejoicing as war planes struck the government building in Tripoli. Over the past few days, the rebels were unable to move towards the oil town in Brega due to heavy gun fire from the pro-Gadaffi forces.
‘Barrage of rockets in dock area’
The pro-Gadaffi have also targetted the dock area in Libya which is one of the main lifelines for the country. This area also plays a pivotal role in aid ships reaching to the coast and supplying the necessary food and medical aid requirements to the Libyans.
In the continuing stalemate, the pro Gadaffi forces bombed the dock, especially when the International organisation of Migrant workers was trying to help 1000 people, who were mainly migrant African workers. Currently, the International Committe of Red Cross is also trying to provide more aid to Misrata, which is located at an important position in between Sirte and Tripoli.
‘600 people died’
Meanwhile, 600 people who were trying to defect from the Tripoli port died due to the sinking of the ship. The UN refugee agency was told that bodies of passengers were seen floating by those who witnessed the episode.
This incident simply describes how desperate the people are to leave their war torn country even if it means risking their lives in an over crowded ship which does not guarantee safety.
‘Its over for Gadaffi’
The heavy bombardment in Triplo was followed after NATO Chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen stated that the ‘the game is over for Gadaffi.’
He also stated that its high time when the Libyan dictator Gadaffi should embrace the winds of change, especially after the death of Osama bin Laden. He also voiced that Gadaffi should realise that he does not have a future by being a dictator of Libya, anymore.
Though, once again, NATO had to explain that the bombing is not being done to target the dictator.
