Why NATO will not apologise?

In a very subtle manner, Rear admiral Russel Harding, approaches the Press in Naples, the alliance operational centre.

And within few minutes, he clearly states why NATO will not apologise for bombing against the rebels.

It was a mistake, he says.

This week, 12-13 rebels have been hit by NATO troops. Definitely,  proving out to be an egregious setback.

Though Harding, the NATO deputy commander of alliance’s operation in Libya did confirm that rebel forces near Brega have been hit.

In the process of defending NATO, Harding stated that NATO had no previous information that the rebels have started using tanks.

He also said that the job of NATO is to protect civilians. Harding also stated that these tanks have been used to threaten civilians in the past by pro-Gadaffi supporters.

The angry rebel forces have stated that this unfortunate development would not hamper their relations with the coalition forces. Sadly, they do not have any other choice. Arab countries have anyways shown no eagerness in training the rebels.

Harding also stated the situation between the towns of Ajdabiya and Brega has become continues to remain very fluid.

Hence, continuous forward and backward movements make it very difficult for the pilots to differentiate between the rebels and the pro-Gadaffi supporters.

Rebel leader Abdul Fattah Younes complained that rebels had notified NATO right from the beginning that the tanks would be used in the battlefield.

He said that it was impossible to make such a deadly mistake when 20 tanks are advancing in the desert land.

Hence, he openly states that it was NATO’s mistake.

Currently, NATO pilots have their own limitations to worry about. Apart from the distance that makes it difficult to operate with clarity, they are located 30,000 feet above the ground, with the speed of 100 miles/hour.

This step has been taken to prevent being hit by shoulder launch anti-aircraft missiles.

The strike tends to be a major set back on the rebel forces who have been egregiously dominated by the pro-Gadaffi supporters for some time now. These 20 tanks were marking their debut in the battlefield and the ‘NATO strikes’ have further aggravated the situation.

The chaotic situation in the hospital in Ajdabiya had further intensified.

Speaking to a BBC’s spokesperson, Dr. Suleiman Radaffi said that 12-13 revolutionaries have been killed.

He stressed again and again that NATO should know how to differentiate and recognise.

As the hospitals in Abdabiya have limited supplies, the patients are being moved to Benghazi.

According to few sources, NATO has destroyed several air craft missiles, T-72 tanks and several ammunition dumps.

Well, the situation is not very pleasing even for NATO or the rebels. But its high time, when the destruction should be stopped.

Otherwise, the lack of communicatio between NATO and the rebels would just lead to one thing- the last laugh by Colonel Gadaffi.
